A collaboration to produce the definitive version of the Audiomods arm. |
We've been working with Anglesound Audio to provide a version of the arm tailored to match the Feickert turntables. This was a demanding task. Dr Chris Feickert is one of the World's leading analogue specialists and his standards are very high. The protoype arm was demonstrated at the 2010 Heathrow show and the reults were very encouraging. Set up by Dr Feickert to Stevenson Geometry with a ZYX cartridge, the combination could hold its own against some of the highest of the high end. Since then, we've made some design and cosmetic changes to create the next generation of the Audiomods arm, available only through Angelsound. This is the result: |

The most obvious change is the surface finish. Apart from looking very good on the Woodpecker turntable, there's a sonic advantage. The process compresses the surface, creating a hardened "skin" which acts as a damping layer and seals micro-cracks in the casting. It's a process that's been used for decades to incrase the fatigue strength of components but it's also very useful for vibration control. One very important change you can't see. Inside the base, the horizontal bearings have been redesigned to move them 3mm nearer to the arm yoke. This results in a big improvement in rigidity and precision and is the first major performance upgrade to the arm design. Internally, the signal wiring runs in sections of Teflon tubing to route it more accurately and avoid any contact with the metal. |
